Culture Day 2007
a. Culture Day 2007 is
in the planning stages. CD Coordinator Ruth has contacted Committee members and
will meet with the president of Also Known As to explore potential
collaboration.
2.
Lunar New Year (February 3, 2007)
a. Includes FCCNY Annual
Members Meeting and Board election
b. Official election of
the new board members
- Bylaws will
be posted on web site by then
- Ensure Board
Members are visible and accessible to encourage FCCNY members to meet them and
raise any questions, concerns, ideas, etc. during the day
c. New Year Celebration
Planning Committee is forming, needs volunteers
d. Year of the Boar,
possible Asian Americans in the Performing Arts
theme
e. Volunteer handout to
be made available
3. Recent “FCCNY Travel Fair and
Forum” (Nov.18) a strong success
a. Provided excellent
and varied information on traveling in China
b. Attendees heard from
travel companies and social workers as well
as parents who had made heritage visits to China
c. A list of travel
resources is now on the web site
d. Event covered
expenses with fees from vendors and small charge to attend
e. Would like to
increase attendance next year
f. Find other ways to make this info available
- Follow up
article in the newsletter
- Sheet to
hand out at Lunar New Year or other events
4. Discussion of other possible
events at tri-state FCCNY level to supplement excellent events being created at
FCC regional chapter level and several major FCCNY events (New Year, Culture
Day, Travel Fair)
a. Possible future
collaboration with China Pediatrics bike ride (not this year)
b. Sponsor dragon boat
festival or team… Other ideas?
5. Orphanage Assistance Annual Appeal
- Annual
Collaboration with FCCNE & FCC chapters across the US -- at the printer
- Board expressed its Thanks to Joe Kelly,
Aileen Koger, and Shanti Fry
6. New Membership Committee should
be added to the board
- Will concentrate
on bringing in new members, and
reaching out to
adoptive families/agencies/groups
- Offer
lifetime membership at $500
- Mark, Tim,
David and Barry agreed to be part of the new committee

Development becomes “Governance”
d. Strategic Planning
and Fundraising are new committees
e. List serve and online
resources becomes List Serve and Website
f. Teens and Tweens
becomes a group
g. Waiting Families
becomes a sub committee of Parent Programs
h. Website becomes part
of “Administration & Finance”
8. Discussion of Fundraising and Orphanage
Assistance Cttes.:
a. Is there a conflict
having a Fundraising Ctte. raise
funds for a range of FCCNY programs and
also for current Orphanage Assistance programs?
b. The alternative could
be a subcommittee of Orphanage Assistance raising funds through activities and
annual appeals, separate from the main FCCNY Fundraising Ctte., which would
focus on new initiatives for activities for the broader FCCNY organization
c. Extensive discussion
weighing these options was tabled for future meeting.
9. Upcoming FCCNY Newsletter coming
up on Race and Identity. Also, the Digest of the FCC New England newsletter, to
be distributed to FCCNY members, will be at the printer in a couple of days.
