We may be moving to Carmel NY in the near future. Are there any families with children adopted from China there? Any advice? Thank you!

Chinese Tutor  <by Amanda Baden 1/20/2012>  (0 replys)

I'm just sharing info on our Chinese Tutor (he tutors me, my husband, and our daughter). Chinese lessons for children I am an experienced Mandarin Chinese teacher from Beijing. My native language offers the standard pronunciation needed to start off your child's Chinese studies on the right foot. I have spent the past five years teaching Chinese and tutoring pre-school, junior and senior high school students in both Beijing and Shanghai. I also worked in foster homes in Beijing. I hold a BA in education and business administration from Beijing ( Beijing University ), and also studied education in Finland where I also taught Chinese. I am a motivated and passionate teacher and children seem to feel comfortable with me. My training program would be regular home visits for individuals or groups of children. I use conventional Chinese textbooks and flashcards but also prepare my own handouts based on your child's specific needs and interests. I also teach with songs that I accompany on guitar. I have seen that children also enjoy reciting Chinese poems. I will also use story books and fables to introduce Chinese history, philosophy and culture to your child. Your child will learn pin yin, correct stroke order for writing characters, and Chinese grammar. These will enhance their speaking and reading comprehension. I believe your child will have fun while studying. My schedule is flexible and I am willing to travel to a location of your choice for lessons. I suggest each session last an hour. Feel free to email or call me for a telephone interview. Teacher Wang / Wáng Lǎo Shī [TEL] (347) 903-9116

If anyone knows of a reliable, trustworthy (and not too pricey) babysitter in the Woodland Park, Little Falls, Totowa area, please let us know either by responding here or sending an email to Worldwhispers@Yahoo.com. We would like to go out to dinner more than once a year. Thank you.

Home Health Aide  <by Janet Silverman 1/13/2012>  (0 replys)

If any member of FCC has an elderly parent that needs live in care, I had a wonderful caretaker for my Father for two and a half years. He was a diabetic on dialysis and a double amputee and she did such an amazing job. She lives in Brooklyn and ideally would live in five days a week and go home on the weekends. She is open to New York City, Westchester or Rockland. If you would like more information please call Janet Silverman (cell) (914) 815-0635, I highly recommend her.

He Hits Himself in Anger  <by GaryF 1/12/2012>  (1 replys)

Hi all! We have a 3-year-old boy who's been with us since April 2010. He's a delight except when it c omes time for something he doesn't want to do (bath, sleep, school). He either hits himself (in the head, leg, arm) or hits his head on the floor or slaps his hand on the floor to hurt himself, as if this will keep him from what he doesn't want to do. Has anyone else dealt with such a thing and if so, what did you do? We heard everything from ignore it to coddle him. We're looking for new ideas! Peace, Gary & Nancy . . .

4-year daughter asks big questions  <by Kera Weiserbs 1/10/2012>  (1 replys)

My daughter, whose 4, is asking questions about her birth and whether it hurt when she came out of my tummy. I'm not sure how to respond about the 'tummy' nor how to tell her that she was adopted. I would greatly appreciate learning how other parents have addressed these types of questions. Thank you, Kera Weiserbs Brooklyn, NY kweiserbs@yahoo.com
