Health insurance question <by awarne 12/30/2003> (2 replys)
I want to upgrade my individual coverage to a parent/child plan. But my provider , Blue Choice requires petition1-15C of NYState Domestic Relations to be filed with the application. The baby also must have active visa or green card. Is any one familiar with this ? Even the service representatives at Blue Cross were unfamiliar with this form. What it is and how to get it. How did any one handle medical coverage for their child?

family tree exercises in school <by Janet 12/6/2003> (0 replys)
I would appreciate references for publications that discuss how to help adopted children handle elementary school assignments to do family trees--and especially how to discuss the inappropriateness of this exercise to teachers, and propose alternatives; also anecdotal information on how other adoptive parents have handled similar situations. My almost-nine year old daughter is very conscious of the fact that in addition to her adoptive tree, she has an other, shadowy, Chinese family tree that she will never be able to fill in with names and other particulars. I have an appointment to talk to her teacher and want to be able to educate and not just emote. Thanks for any suggestions about resources, published and experiential.

Expectant Mothers Get Together in Brooklyn <by Connie Kirch 11/24/2003> (3 replys)

I am interested in meeting with other expectant mothers who live in Brooklyn that are waiting for their referrals from China. I live in Boerum Hill. If you would like to get together over some coffee, share your experiences with the adoption process and support one another in this difficult time please contact me. Or if you have recently returned from China with your baby and have some advice for us that are expecting. Again, please contact me.

Readoption-why did you go through with it? <by Sue 11/17/2003> (3 replys)
We are comtemplating readopting our 18 month old daughter (see previous post requesting lawyer references). For those that did go through readoption, why did you do it? Other than protecting her inheritence rights, which we don't expect to be challenged, we cannot come up with a reason to go through this procedure. We are truly interested in finding a compelling reason for readoption since NY State does not require it and our agency seems only to cite inheritence and all our children are adopted. We are/have already gotten her passport, NY State Birth Certificate of Data, Certificate of Citizenship, etc. We would appreciate any thoughts on this matter. Thank you.

Extraordinary Nanny Available <by Carol White Llewellyn 9/3/2003> (0 replys)

Tania came to us three years ago from Ecuador as an Au Pair Extraordinaire to care for our twin daughters from China. She was the most wonderful care giver and truly a member of our Family but, because we were unable to offer her the opportunity to get a green card, she had to move on to a family with twin boys who thought they'd be able to assist her (This did not materialize). In the beginning, our daughters had minor developmental delays. Tania's degree is in Early Childhood Education and Special Needs and although our daughters were in the Early Intevention Program, we feel we have Tania, in great part, to thank for how quickly our daughters progressed and how completely they caught up.
Tania speaks English well and Spanish fluently.
Our wonderful friend is now seeking a new Full-time position as a live-in or live-out Nanny in Westchester, Manhattan or Queens with a family that is child-focused. We are still awaiting the finalization of our domestic adoption, or we would invite her to return.
To speak with Tania directly, please call (646) 645-8831. For further information, please call me at (914) 524-8514, or email me at Carol@TheARF.org.
