Book Recommendations <by Liz Meier 6/7/2005> (1 replys)

Does anyone know of any books that discuss the mindset of a Chinese woman, not necessarily a mother. I am interested in finding out about how a Chinese woman's thinking comapres to that of an American woman. How we see ourselves in society, our role... Thank you.

Hello,
My husband and I are hoping to adopt from China, and have been doing a lot of agency research. We would greatly appreciate any feedback on Brightside, CAWLI or WACAP from families who have used these groups from NY. You can reach me at llazarus@telesisny.com. Many thanks. Laura

Need referral for child/development psychologist with experience in intl. adoption & food issues? <by Nancy Schwartz 6/13/2005> (0 replys)

We need some guidance on our daughter's (she's from China) unique food issues. She was in foster care and well cared for.
She is too focused on food--always wanting more (even when she's eaten enough for an adult), begs, takes from scraps on plates and in cups left around at parties, etc. We have gotten some advice from our agency but they didn't have direct experience with this.
Would appreciate NJ or NYC recommendations.
Thanks.

Newly arrived home, seeking advice <by Erin 6/12/2005> (1 replys)

My husband and I arrived home from China almost three weeks ago with our newly adopted 15-month old daughter. She lived in an orphanage before we adopted her. She seems to be adjusting reasonably well and seems to be attaching to us. However, she has episodes (usually upon waking from sleep) of intense crying, for no apparent physical reason, in which she strongly resists being held or touched (she will push our hand away if we even try to rub her back), she turns her back to us, but also screams even more if we put her down. Sometimes we're worried that she will hurt herself if we put her down because she is flailing around so much. I know this is probably her way of grieving, but I'm not sure what to do - hold her despite her resistance or put her down and risk having her feel unloved/alone? Our social worker has not offered much advice and I would greatly appreciate hearing from any other families that have experienced anything similar.
Thanks very much,
Erin
