Westchester/Bronx Monthly Meetings to begin!!  <by Nancy 5/4/2004>  (0 replys)

We are set to begin our monthly meetings for FCC Westchester/Bronx! June Meeting Thursday, June 10th 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 The Magdalene Church 525 Bedford Road Pocantico Hills, NY (Sleepy Hollow) The initial format of these meetings is going to be informal. What is important is that we make the effort to gather to share our China daughters (and sons!) and: Discuss parenting issues Be an outreach to Waiting families Introduce New Families Organize playgroups Share Resources Plan cultural activities Share news that affect our families Discuss opportunities for Mandarin Lessons, Chinese Dance and the like Share local community events of interest, An area that seems to have interest to develop is gatherings for older children that were adopted from China. Volunteers: I am hoping that there are some friends out there that are willing to help with our meetings. Specifically, I will probably need help with the following: Getting the word out to people you know Making a commitment to attend some meetings Think of ideas of how we can make monthly meetings a success Help with clean up after our meeting If you plan on attending, please bring some snack (chips, cookies, fruit) or drink (soda, water bottles, juice boxes) to share. Remember that all are welcome! Moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, etc. Anyone that wants to spend time each month with other families that have adopted children from China. If you can not be there at 6:30, that is okay. We will probably hang out until around 8 or 8:30, so stop in after you get home from work, after your commute home on the train, or after that softball game! Bring along some table toy or coloring book and crayons for your children. Or maybe they will just have fun like some cuties that I know, that love to run around the room and giggle all the time. To begin with, I think it would be wonderful if you could RSVP that you are going to attend. This will help us with the planning and hopefully encourage us to keep these meetings going on a monthly basis. You can reply to this e-mail or e-mail me privately at kennon217@verizon.net Thank you so much for your support! We have over 200 families that are listed as FCC members in Westchester and the Bronx! That is an encouraging number of families to tap into to share our wonderful "Red Thread Journeys." Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you June 10th! Nancy Kennon 914-941-9040 Ossining FCCNY Coordinator for Westchester/Bronx kennon217@verizon.net Directions: Conveniently located Just East of Tarrytown, South of Ossining, West of Hawthorne and North of Yonkers On Route 448 off Routes 9 and 9A

Certificate of Citizenship  <by Lee Miller 4/22/2004>  (0 replys)

My daughter, Emma, got her Certificate of Citenship yesterday. I wanted to pass along that the children's area of Immigration/Homeland Security is under renovation and their cases are being split with officers who haven't done these before. The form we received to come down to Immigration never mentioned needing to bring your daughter. The officer is going to change this -- but just so you know, you MUST bring your daughter to this appointment. FYI, it took us about 6 months to get the certificate. Best, Lee

New Adoptive Parents Group  <by Carol Rial 4/5/2004>  (0 replys)

Hello New and Newish Adoptive Parents! A group has been created where you can give and get information and support and move forward with confidence in your new role as an adoptive parent of a child from China. This group will meet on the phone once a week for 9 weeks and is being led by China adoptive mom Carol Rial and speech pathologist and mother Michelle DiMattia. Last week the co-leaders of the group gave a very well-received seminar on Speech and Language Development (for children ages 6 months to 3 years old) that was sponsored by The Gladney Center. There are now just 4 spaces available in the group. If interested, please contact Carol at RealRial@aol.com.

jiangyin social welfare institute  <by judith friedman 4/1/2004>  (0 replys)

If you 're child is from the Jiangyin Social Welfard Institue, you should know that the new facility is immaculately kept, the children well taken care of, and many wonderful amenities-- a spacious inside playground, an excellent outdoor playground, a single baby to a crib, and bedding that is colorful. Our daughter came from there 8 years ago (she will soon by nine) and we just came back from a two week trip to China which included our visit there. It was an amazing and wonderful experience for all of us.
