Families with Children from China
An Appeal from FCC Orphanage Assistance Programs
Dear Friends,
We write to you from the view of a world quite different from that of just a year ago. Amidst the devastation and uncertainty of this new landscape, we are mindful of some important truths.
We are blessed with the love of our children, our families, and friends, and with the richness of our lives. Within the larger community, we see how much we depend on one another, and we experience the inherent goodness and generosity of both friends and strangers.
We are a spirited, resourceful and generous people. In the wake of terrible destruction and upheaval, we are heartened by the coming together and outpouring of concern by people across the country.

Unity
Now more than ever we see the value and significance of the bonds we have developed as a community of families with children from China. Our relationship with China and its people and the connections we have nurtured provide a model for living in the international community.
For many of us the trip to China to bring home our daughters and sons made us acutely aware of the plight of children growing up without the love and care of family. In each of the past five years, members of Families with Children from China from around the country have responded to our appeal to help the countless numbers
of children remaining in institutional care. |
Commitment
Since our first appeal in 1996, our program has grown more than we could have imagined. With many families giving generously each year, we have brought immeasurable change to the lives of children in China's orphanages.
Through the gifts of our donors, for example, Chun Yue, a two year-old girl in Changshu has received medical care and is now happy and thriving in the loving care of her foster family. She is just one of the thousands of children we are helping in a range of programs in more than thirty orphanages across China.
The challenge before us now is to fulfill the commitment we have made to these children, to ensure a future of hope and possibility. To honor our promise to the many children our programs benefit, we need to raise $200,000 this year - a significant goal, but one we believe we can achieve.
Through your support and in partnership with the China-based Amity Foundation, here's what our commitment can accomplish.
 |
- Babies and young children who would otherwise languish in institutional care will thrive with loving foster families.
- Wen Wen, a toddler in Wuhan, can have the life-saving heart surgery she needs, and dozens of other children will receive operations or medical treatment crucial to their health and well-being.
- Infants at risk will receive intensive nursing care, and young children, many of whom are disabled, will benefit from the love and attention of retired Grandmas who supplement the care of orphanage staff.
- Six year-old Xin Min can begin first grade, and over three hundred other children will go to school under our sponsorship, giving them the chance for a better life.
The funding for these projects must be renewed each year. With your support now we can continue these vital programs.

The Future
Our responsibility to the children in China is both a renewal of our promise and a testament of our faith in the future.
Your contribution will help to maintain all of our continuing programs and provide medical treatment and critical surgery to some of the many children with congenital problems who come into orphanage care each year. With your help we can
also develop new programs such as much needed rehabilitation services for special needs children.
With determination and your generous participation, we will accomplish the task before us. Together we will sustain hope and the promise of a brighter future - for Xin Min, little Chun Yue, and so many more children.
With deepest gratitude,
Aileen Koger
Director, FCC Orphanage Assistance Programs
