HOLLYWOOD CHINESE
Opens Friday May 2nd - May 8th
The Quad Cinema
34 West 13th Street New York, NY 10011
(212) 255-8800
www.quadcinema.com
HOLLYWOOOD Chinese is a captivating revelation of a little-known chapter in Cinema: The Chinese in American feature films. From the first Chinese American film produced in 1916, to Ang Lee's triumphant "Brokeback Mountain" nine decades later, HOLLYWOOD CHINESE brings together a fascinating group of actors, directors and writers who show how they navigated an industry that is so often ignorant about race. Produced, written, and edited by Academy Award nominee Arthur Dong, the film is punctuated with a dazzling number of clips from over 90 movies, dating from 1890s paper prints up to the current wave of Asian American cinema. A highlight is the discovery of two nitrate reels of what is now considered the first Chinese American film ever made, "The Curse of Quon Gwon (1916). It was recently placed on the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. (Running Time: 1:29).

Date: Check in: Saturday May 3, 2008
Check out: Sunday May 4, 2008
Place: Great Wolf Lodge (Directions below)
1 Great Wolf Drive
Poconos, PA 18355
http://www.greatwolf.com/Locations/Poconos/checklist/index.aspx
Reservations 1-800-768-9653
Cost: $229.00 + tax (includes 4 water park passes, additional are $20 each, max per room is 6 people.)
This rate if for the Family Suite (2 Queen beds, and a full size pullout)
You will need a Promotion code to make this reservation. Please e-mail me (jayneh@fccli.org) for it and include how many rooms you will be taking and how many people in each room. After 3 weeks I will open it to non FCCLI families and try and fill the remaining of the 50 rooms we have on hold. Rooms held by FCCLI will be released by the hotel by March 18, 2008
FYI: Having gone this past November, I would like to offer a few tips. Although check in is at 4 pm, you can arrive by 12:30 and get into the park with a temporary pass, it is possible that your room will be ready, but don't count on it until 4pm. There are changing rooms and lockers so pack a separate swim bag. You don't need towels, they are provided, as well as life vests for the kids if needed. Same thing applies for the day of departure, you have to check out by 11am, so pack your car and keep a swim bag, get a locker and stay as long as you want at the park.
Food is expensive, like any amusement park. We brought food for all of our meals. You get a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot in your room. I used a small soft cooler for our lunches on the last day, and put it in my beach bag. The web site has a Travelers Checklist that might also be helpful If you have any questions, please e-mail me at jayneh@fccli.org.
Directions: New York City Area - From George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel take I-80 west (through New Jersey) go across the Delaware Water Gap Bridge into Pennsylvania. Proceed on I-80 west to Exit 298 (Scotrun). Turn left onto Route 611 and Great Wolf Lodge is on immediate left.

SOLD OUT!! Families with Children from China of Greater NY Brooklyn Chapter and Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU present MakeUp & Identity Workshop for FCC Girls 12 yr. & older Makeup Demonstration and Skin Care for Asian Faces
and
the kip fulbeck: part asian, 100% hapa exhibit
Friday May 9th, 2008 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Asian/Pacific/American Institute at New York University
41-51 East 11th Street, 7th floor
(between University Place & Broadway)
New York, NY 10003 (212) 998-9044
Ever wonder how to apply makeup effectively to Asian eyes or how to best care for your skin? Come hear Rachael Ngai, a makeup expert from Sephora, teach you how to do it properly. She will select members of the audience for the demonstration. It is not necessary to bring your own makeup, but you can if you want to.
While you are attending the makeup demonstration come explore your identity. kip fulbeck: part asian, 100% hapa is an exhibition of portraits by award-winning filmmaker and artist Kip Fulbeck, who traveled the country photographing Hapa of all ages and walks of life. Originally used as a derogatory label derived from the Hawaiian word for "half," hapa has since been embraced as a term of pride by many whose mixed racial heritage includes Asian or Pacific Islander descent.
Fulbeck's work seeks to address in words and images the one question that Hapa are frequently asked: "What are you?" By pairing the portraits of Hapa - unadorned by make-up, jewelry, and clothing - along with their handwritten statements on who they are, this exhibition offers a powerful yet intimate perspective on the complex nature of contemporary American identity.

Families with Children from China of Greater New York presents Olympic Dreams of China!
FCC Chinese Culture Day 2008
A Day to Experience and Celebrate Chinese Culture
CRRNJ Terminal at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ Saturday May 17, 2008 9:30am-5:30pm
FCCNY is going for the gold in 2008! Each year, FCC brings you the traditional arts and culture of China with its fantastic, fun-filled Chinese Culture Day. In 2008, just 84 days before the Olympics begin in Beijing, Culture Day celebrates sports, games and athletes in a day of Olympic Dreams of China! As modern China welcomes the world to the historic Beijing Olympics, FCC of Greater New York welcomes you to our 13th Annual Chinese Culture Day!
Don’t miss the opening ceremonies -- traditional zither players at registration and the lion dance bringing us good luck. Then watch and join demonstrations of speed, strength, and beauty, as you explore sports and games as they are played in China. You will experience the thrill of victory and, by the end of the day, the “agony of the feet” that comes with discovering so many incredible activities. And of course Culture Day offers the best in professional and amateur (our own FCC kids) performers of traditional Chinese music, dance and theatre.
FCCNY is proud to welcome back our Culture Day Emcee, Alan Muraoka, from Sesame Street!
Share the day with family and friends You are encouraged to register your guests at the member price before May 9th, 2008. Registration is $30 per adult and $15 per child aged 2yrs to 17 yrs. for FCCNY members and their guests. For the member prices you must login and have a current 2008 FCCNY membership. Nonmember and after May 9th registration increases to $40 per adult and $20 per child aged 2yrs-17yrs.
Make Culture Day 2008 Happen–Be a Volunteer!!!
Bring your children, family and friends to volunteer with you at Culture Day. It’s fun to interact with FCC members and their children, and rewarding to know that your time made Culture Day a great event for everyone. Many older kids enjoy helping at the crafts tables, with games, and in sales, and you can coordinate volunteer schedules with family and friends to take care of younger children for an hour – or more!
