Ring in the Year of the Tiger with art! Join CMA for a special celebration weekend of Chinese arts and culture. In our 2nd annual Lunar New Year Family Festivla, visitors will explore both ancient and modern Chinese art, music, dance and theater. The weekend-long festival will feature guest artists, performances and workshops.
On Sunday February 7th, events will take place throughout the day at both CMA and the Museum of Chinese in America, located 1 block away. Purchase admission here and you will receive 50% off admission at MOCA.

• Columbia Chinese Yo-Yo troupe will perform and hold workshops between 12:30-2:30
• Artist Peter Yip will teach you how to silkscreen and create your own tiger puppet using fabric and paint. Two sessions: 12-1:30pm and 2:00-3:30pm ($5 material per child fee in addition to admission, pre registration required please contact Claire Marcus, cmarcus@cmany.org, to register)
• Kam Mak will host a storytelling and art workshop at 4:00 and 4:30
• Workshops exploring the Year of the Tiger and traditional Chinese art forms with CMA teaching artists- Ongoing from 12-5pm

• Interactive Puppet show “Hao Bang Ya, Tiger!”, a glove puppet performance by the Chinese Theater Works, 2pm and 3pm
• Performance by Radiance Chinese Dance Company- 3:45pm, 4:00 Workshop
• Workshops exploring the Year of the Tiger and traditional Chinese art forms with CMA teaching artists- Ongoing from 12-5pm

There will be a playgroup forming on Saturday, February 20th from 10am - Noon for families with children ages 1-8. The cost is $17 per family and you can pay on-line via fccny.org for this event. First of all, China Care and Dumplings would like to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year. This year will be the year of the tiger. Come join us to learn about the traditions, practices, and stories of the Lunar New Year!
The playgroup activities are geared towards boys and girls between ages 5-7 years old. What’s best is that the program is FREE! All supplies will be covered by NYU China Care Club. Just come and have some fun learning about Chinese culture. We will also be fundraising for the China Care organization at each playgroup, and we suggest parents to donate $10 for medical treatments and surgeries for Chinese orphans in China.

Part I, Saturday, October 17, 2009: “Testimonies of Adult Adoptees Regarding their Upbringing” – Adoptees will discuss what they feel worked or did not work in regards to their parents raising them. Adoptees will also discuss their thoughts on the introduction of their birth culture, when/why/forced?
Part II, Saturday, February 20, 2010: “Race/Religion/Gender” – A perspective and discussion of how Race, Religion, and Gender affect Adoptees in their everyday lives. Among other things, Adoptees will discuss stereotypes and other issues that they face on a daily basis.
Part III, Saturday, April 17, 2020: “Growing up with Siblings” – The makeup of today’s American family is dynamic, especially with families with adoptees in the ranks. The panel of speakers will be made up of both adoptee/adoptee siblings as well as adoptee/biological siblings.

11th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration
February 21, 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Weekend of February 26th-28th Plan to Join FCC families with a visit to Washington DC for a special gathering at the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit on February 27th, and a visit to the Panda exhibit and DC Zoo on February 28th. Plan to check in to Doubletree Hotel (1515 Rhode Island Ave NW, DC; 1-202-232-7000) on Friday February 26th and depart Sunday February 28th. Meet at Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit to enter at the FCC reserved time 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 27th. Group Tour of Panda and other exhibits at DC Zoo scheduled for Sunday, meet 9:45 AM.
Check in anytime Friday evening February 26th at Doubletree Hotel. Hotel reservations can be made individually via internet to obtain best rate (room rates as of January 4th $101-$150/night).

You must prepay for FCC Central NJ/Bucks group tickets for Terra Cotta Warriors by January 25th, 2010. REGISTER online at www.fccny.org. FCC prices--$6.00 for child, $8.00 for adult. (Non FCC members $10/$12, regular admission prices.) We will sell out at 75 tickets, so please make sure to prepay early. Prepay with credit card at FCC NY website (you must be a member of FCC NY to use this option) or write check to FCC Central NJ/Bucks. Email lbyokoe@yahoo.com for address information. Prepayment must be received by 1/25/10.
You must reserve spot for FCC Zoo Tour, send child’s age, and whether adult(s) would like to accompany if space is available. Add $1.00 per person, and we will refund $1 if no space is available. Please note that first come first serve, and children will have first priority. This docent-led exploration will last 1.5 hours. Maximum number is 50, led in groups of 10, so please reserve early.

Please arrive no earlier than 1:15—this is15 minutes before the timed entry stated on your ticket. Strollers, large backpacks or bags, cameras, food, and beverages are prohibited within the exhibition. Please plan accordingly. A stroller- and coat-check area is available for your convenience. Please refrain from cell phone use in the exhibition area. Photography with cameras, cell phones, or other personal devices is strictly prohibited.
Public Transit
National Geographic Museum is convenient to two Metro stops: Farragut North (on the Red line) and Farragut West (on the Orange/Blue lines). Visit www.wmata.com for more information.
Parking
Limited metered street parking is available near National Geographic. Several parking garages are located within a few blocks of National Geographic.
Accessibility
The galleries of National Geographic Museum are wheelchair accessible. The ramp to access Terra Cotta Warriors is located on M Street, just east of 17th Street, at the main entrance for this exhibition. The museum has a limited number of wheelchairs available. Please call ahead (+1 202 857 7588) if you anticipate a need for a wheelchair. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are complimentary.
