Fa Gao 发糕 Kitchen Class with Professor Willa Zhen & Think!Chinatown

Sun, Feb 14, 2021 3:00 PM. RSVP here

Join the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History to celebrate Chinese New Year in 2021 with a kitchen class by Dr. Willa Zhen of the Culinary Institute of America, in collaboration with Think!Chinatown.

Fa gao, which literally means “prosperity cake” or “fortune cake”, is one of the most popular treats eaten during Lunar New Year. Learn how to make this spongy, fluffy rice flour dessert with Professor Willa Zhen at the Culinary Institute and hear from Yin Kong, Executive Director of Think! Chinatown, about bread traditions across China.

When you register, you will receive a list of equipment and ingredients to have prepared, and where to buy them. Please also consider celebrating Lunar New Year with Think!Chinatown by "bringing the party home with the Tuan Yuan 團圓 Homecoming Box! Created in partnership with Pearl River Mart, the 50-year-old iconic NYC Asian emporium, the Box includes all the materials our community members will need to participate in virtual T!C Lunar New Year events." (including this one!) You can find out how to attend their celebrations on papercutting, tea tasting, and more when you click that link.

This class is donation based, (suggested donation $5-$15). All proceeds from this event will go towards the Reher Center's campaign to Grow our Gallery, Build our Bathrooms. Learn more and donate at https://www.rehercenter.org/donations/grow-our-gallery-campaign/

No one turned away for lack of funds. Please contact info@rehercenter.org
