Accessing Mental Health Resources

An Adoptee Panel Discussion for Adoptees and Adoptive Parents

Purpose: Creating a brave space for Adoptees and Adoptive Parents to discuss issues and experiences surrounding accessing mental health resources for Adoptees.

Join us on Wednesday, June 30th from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (EST) for our next Adoptee Narrative Talk: Accessing Mental Health Resources. For 50 minutes, panelists will discuss barriers they faced accessing mental services, other ways they took care of their mental health, and ways in which adoptive parents can be supportive when adoptees are seeking this type of support.

For the second portion of the discussion, participants will be split into break out rooms for 20 minutes to discuss (adoptees and adoptive parents will be separated for this part). The final part of the event will be a short debrief and a sharing of resources for the community.

With the rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes over the course of this past year, we feel that is more important than ever to create a brave space for all within the adoptee community to discuss mental health issues and share resources with each other.

This event is open to Adoptees ages 16+ and Adoptive Parents. Those under 16 years of age will need a parent or guardian to join. This event is free, but donations are appreciated to continue providing programs to our community.

Panelists Discussion Questions are as follows:

  1. Have you experienced any barriers to accessing mental health services? Please tell us about your experience.
  2. Do you have another means by which you take care of your mental health? Are there any specific coping strategies you’d like to share?
  3.  Do you think this experience is unique for adoptees? If so, why?
  4. What should Adoptive Parents be considering when accessing mental health resources for their Adoptees? How would you want your parents to support your mental health?
