About the Event:
Join CAA for a special community gathering designed for adult Chinese adoptees to come together, share, and connect through meaningful objects and stories. Titled “Objects or Artifacts of Adoption,” this event offers a safe and supportive space for adoptees to bring and discuss an item that holds personal significance. Whether it’s something that connects you to Chinese culture, an object related to your adoption story, or simply something that brings you joy, this gathering allows each participant to share a part of themselves in a meaningful way.
This gathering embraces a Cultural Show-and-Tell format, allowing everyone to share adoption stories, memories, or reflections connected to their chosen item. By bringing these objects into our shared space, we aim to create a patchwork of experiences, fostering understanding, connection, and support within the adoptee community. If you wish to not bring an item or share, your presence is still valued and we would love for you to join and connect in whatever way you see is best for yourself.
Event Intent and Purpose:
-
Enhance Connection: Sharing meaningful objects offers a unique window into each person’s story, helping us connect and relate in deeper ways.
-
Encourage Self-Reflection: Reflecting on why we hold certain objects dear can offer insight into our identities, values, and what brings us comfort or happiness.
-
Create Community: Through this shared experience, we hope to build a stronger sense of belonging among adoptees, where everyone’s story and perspective are valued.
-
Honor Our Identities: This event is a celebration of the diversity within the adoptee experience, honoring personal connections to culture, heritage, and individual joy.
Suggested Items to Bring:
-
Culturally Significant Objects: Items like Chinese artwork, tea, traditional clothing, or souvenirs that reflect Chinese culture or a connection to heritage.
-
Adoption-Related Artifacts: Objects that directly connect to your adoption journey, such as letters, photographs, or mementos.
-
Items That Bring Joy: Any object, big or small, that simply makes you happy—whether it’s a favorite book, piece of art, family heirloom, or something personal that lifts your spirit.
