Chinese Adoptee Alliance is dedicated to providing a shared space for adoptees and their families to be in community with each other. As volunteers, we work to provide in-person and virtual events that create opportunities for adoptees and families to form bonds and experience a powerful sense of belonging with others with similar experiences. Our events also provide a platform for experts in fields like mental health services, post-adoption services, and critical adoption researchers to share their work with our community and expand our understanding of adoptees’ experiences. Last year, our Virtual Events Committee hosted a panel event in collaboration with Adoption Mosaic titled “Navigating Relationships with Family.” The panelists delved into what family means to them as adoptees and many of them described how their perceptions of family have changed over time alongside their relationship to their identity as an adoptee. Attendees shared that this space was incredibly valuable in giving them an opportunity to hear perspectives they had not yet considered and helped them feel less alone. I was able to learn and listen from my peers, furthering my own way of how I related to being Chinese American adoptee. I find myself having to actively not my thoughts when the panel was sharing so that I could listen while heartedly without passing judgments of making comments in my head. - Alison, event attendee Events like this rely on support from you, our community. $15 dollars supports our use of Zoom for a month to host accessible virtual events and $150 allows us to compensate a guest presenter for their time and expertise. This year, we are hoping to raise $2,000 before the end of the year to allow us to continue our programming for the adoption community. Please consider donating $15 now to help us reach this goal!
