FCCNY International Pen Pal Program
FCCNY is launching an exciting new international Pen Pal program!
FCC - would your child like to be a Pen Pal with a Chinese adoptee that lives in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) !?
International- would your child like to be a Pen Pal with a Chinese adoptee that lives in the greater New York area!?
We invite you to join the adventure!
We have found matches for all but 2 of our UK participants.
Please sign up on the waitlist.
If you have a 3rd grader interested in matching with a UK girl who likes guitar, cooking, and reading- please email lisagibson@fccny.org
If we are able to match with a UK adoptee, we will do so, but otherwise you will most likely be matched with another adoptee from the US. Deadline remains Oct 1, but is based on match and first come, first serve.
Benefits of participating:
Become friends with an adoptee from China your own age who lives in another country
Build a friendship that can last a lifetime
Provide an international experience without having to leave home
Share the common bond of adoption from China while developing a broader awareness of being a part of the global community
Provide a safe, fun learning experience
Develop literacy, writing skills (they still matter!), self-confidence, empathy and understanding
How to Participate
Ages 6 – 17 (Must be registered by a parent)
Ages 18+ (Can register without the permission of a parent)
Fill out the registration (blue registration button, left) with details about your adoptee. We will then do our best to match adoptees with a Pen Pal of the same age, gender, school year, and interests.
Once matched with a Pen Pal - and to meet data protection laws - parents will exchange e-mails and information about the Pen Pals.
Parents and children will then decide together how best to communicate (email, snail mail, social media sites, etc).
After choosing method(s) of communication, Pen Pals will be expected to write to each other at least two times a month from October 2016 through June 2017
Optional Year End Celebration: FCCNY participants are invited to meet UK Pen Pals at a picnic or similar get together in the UK to be held the last week of June 2017.
Likewise, if there is significant demand, FCCNY will hold a similar event for international participants in the New York area.
When the program starts:
Applications are being accepted now through October 1
Pen Pal’s will start writing on October 15
